Derek S. Evans, 34, is the founder CEO of Veteran Oil Partners and Veteran Exploration & Production. Mr. Evans is a United States Marine Corps combat veteran who served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He credits his experience in the military where he conducted counter insurgency operations in Middle Eastern and SW Asian regions as the catalyst of his professional ambitions in the oil industry. Mr. Evans began his oil and gas career with an energy focused private equity firm led by a nationally recognized natural resource investor in 2006. He held a Series 22 and Series 63 license with the firm. Here he participated in the formation and capital sourcing of multiple direct participation investment vehicles targeting a wide array of energy and natural resource related acquisitions to include; oil and gas working interests, alternative energy facilities, natural gas pipelines, and water rights. Mr. Evans has 12 years of energy industry experience, 8 of which as an owner operator, and has organized, structured, and sourced funding for over 100MM in various projects. As CEO of Veteran Oil Partners he has managed the acquisition of several thousand acres of mineral leases throughout Oklahoma and North Central Texas, drilled over 100,000+ ft. of vertical hole, has operated & produced over 65,000 barrels of oil and counting, and has made multiple small field discoveries which led to field exploitation phase investments. His "can do" attitude and determination along with his natural leadership ability that he refined and perfected throughout his Marine Corps career has attracted and secured top tier technical expertise and executive management to include some of the most accomplished petroleum engineers and geologists in the country as well as recognized fortune 500 executive managers. He prides himself most on his relentless work ethic, unquestionable integrity, his charitable personality, and most of all his high moral character as leader of Veteran Oil.
Anthony Bernal, 32, is the Vice President of Veteran Oil Partners. Mr. Bernal is a United States Marine Corps combat veteran who served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and was honorably discharged after 5 years of service. He credits his ambition and professional achievements to being raised in a military family with strong ethical values and to his personal military experience. Mr. Bernal began his oil and gas career with an energy focused firm focused on the exploration and development within the Eagle Ford Shale. There he participated in the formation and capital sourcing of multiple direct participation investment opportunities. Mr. Bernal has 6 years of energy industry experience and has organized, structured, and sourced funding for over 10MM in various projects. He prides himself on being a creative, versatile, and results-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and special abilities in telecommunication. His integrity, loyalty, leadership and ability to motivate diverse personnel, build productive teams, and thrive under pressure makes him a viable asset to Veteran Oil Partners.
Morgan Thomas is the Executive Assistant to the CEO of Veteran Oil Partners, Derek Evans. Morgan directs her time, effort, and energy into those that are passionate about their vision, to help them operate more efficiently. Whether for a client or a business, the overarching theme of her work has been to effectively align little details into big processes. She leverages the ability to execute minutiae while focusing on the bigger picture to construct corporate systems, processes and strategies that help our team scale and the business thrive. After spending nearly a decade in leadership and business development roles for multi- million-dollar brands and start-ups, Morgan knows how to drive business growth and a elite professional culture. And, she believes in doing it with unending optimism, confidence, and integrity. Morgan holds a Bachelor of Science in Global Business from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Shawna began her career in accounting before she was even born! Her grandfather was a CPA so it seems it’s in her blood. She started working various aspects of the field as early as high school in office management positions. She then went to work with Triple Check Income Tax and Business Services while finishing university courses. From there, she grew into the Controller position at a CPA Firm and then established her own company. After earning her Bachelor's degree with honors from Texas Wesleyan University, Shawna continued her studies by becoming a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, training in Crystal Reports Levels I-III, A+, and WolfePak software, as well as E-Commerce and Communications masters level courses. Shawna understands the importance of treating every business partner with respect and integrity. Her goal is efficiency for every project she takes on. Accepting most any challenge with a smile, she is extremely versatile and adapts well to any environment. In her spare time, Shawna enjoys being with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, reading and working on philanthropy projects such as the Tour de Pink and Step Onward Foundation.
Laura Herman brings 10 years of business marketing experience to the Veteran Oil Partners executive team. She is responsible for the marketing, communication, and business development activities of the company. In addition to strategic business development efforts she directs media relations, VOP social media pages, branding, advertising and website optimization. Laura fits in perfectly with the Veteran Oil Partners office culture as she is the daughter of a now retired career U.S. Navy serviceman.
